Surprise Police Department
What’s it like to live in a city named Surprise? Well, pardon the cliché, but it’s full of surprises! Our sprawling suburban city is located in the northwest Phoenix Metropolitan area, just 45 minutes from Downtown Phoenix and the Sky Harbor International Airport. Residents and visitors enjoy the small-town feel with big-city amenities that only Surprise can offer. From community celebrations to art galleries to recreational activities, our multigenerational city has something for everyone.
The Surprise Police Department serves our community with respect by upholding the constitutional rights, peace, and security of the public with purposeful engagement and meaningful partnerships. Our officers are dedicated to serving every facet of our community, championing inclusivity at its core.
The Surprise Police Department has collaborated with a number of community stakeholders to support, educate, and better serve our community. When the opportunity to partner with the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) presented itself, Police Chief Piña took the opportunity to strengthen our commitment to our community. The training courses offered by IBCCES ensured our entire department was capable of being a Certified Autism Center™ (CAC).
Our department has equipped patrol officers with “Autism Go Bags”, which aid Officers in responding to calls involving individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. These “go bags” contain essential items, including communication cards for nonverbal interactions, sensory toys, water, and snacks. Training and equipping our officers underscores our ongoing commitment to creating a safer and more supportive environment for all members of our diverse community.
